There were so many photographers who traveled around the American West that captured little pieces of history by photographing the Native Americans that they encountered. Some are famous and others obscure. Most of these men and women not only recorded a way of life that was rapidly becoming something of the past but they came back East to give a respectful impression of what so many looked at as savages. There are some who took pictures in a natural state while others have been discovered as having staged the photos. Whether staged or impromptu, the images now show us a culture that was taken away from so many.

Customers can pre-order this wall calendar showing old photographs of Native Americans now with shipping expected to begin around June 8, 2017.

A lovely way to stay in touch each month with your journey on the Good Red Road. Some famous Lakota, sometimes referred to as the Sioux, were Red Cloud who was from the Oglala band of the Lakota. Two other notable Lakota men were Sitting Bull, a medicine man, and Crazy Horse, a great and brave warrior. Another of the Oglala Band of Lakota who has been influential in much spiritual learning was the Holy Man or Medicine Man known as Black Elk.
