Edward Sheriff Curtis began working with photography in 1885 when he was just 17 years old. He gave us so many photographs of the American West and most especially of Native Americans. He lived to be 84 years old and passed away in 1952. He has received both praise for his work and criticism for his works. Praise for the many historical images that we still can enjoy but criticized because it would appear that he staged many of his photos particularly with Native Americans. Either way you look at it, Edward S Curtis left us with a legacy of photos of a life that is no longer.
