The Inuit consists of various groups of peoples who are indigenous to the central and northeastern Canadian Arctic and in Greenland. Agriculture was and is not possible in the tundra and cold climates. These remarkable people are mostly hunters and trappers. European settlers once referred to the Inuit as the Eskimo getting the name from the Algonquin speaking peoples. Eskimo is a bit of a derogatory name and is not used much any longer.
