Illusion is the lesson of Dragonfly
The colors in Dragonfly’s wings remind us of colors not found in our everyday life experience. The shifting of color, energy, form, and movement of dragonfly explodes into the mind of the observer. It brings vague memories of a time when magic reigned.
Some believe that Dragonfly was once Dragon and that Dragon had scales like Dragonfly’s wings. Dragon was full of wisdom and flew through the night bringing light with its fiery breath. The art of magic and the illusion of changing form were brought forth by the breath of Dragon. Coyote tricked Dragon into changing form and the shape of its new body became like that of Dragonfly.
The winds of change, the messages of wisdom and enlightenment, and the communications from the elemental world are the essence of Dragonfly. This elemental world is made up of the tiny spirits of plants and the elements of air, earth, fire, and water. This elemental world is full of nature spirits.
If Dragonfly has come to you today in a dream, physically crossed your path, or in some way has reached your thoughts; you may have forgotten to water your plants. On another level, you may need to give thanks to the foods you eat for sustaining your body. On a psychological level, it might be time to break down the illusions you have held that restrict your actions or ideas.
The medicine of Dragonfly always beckons you to seek out the parts of your habits which you need to change. Have you lost a lot of weight or gained a lot of weight? Are you tending to the changes you have wanted to make in your life? Call on Dragonfly if you feel the need for change. Brother Dragonfly will guide you through the mists of illusion to the pathway of transformation.
Is there a way to apply the art of illusion to your present question or situation? Remember things are not always completely as they seem.
~Mitakuye Oyasin~ We are all related
Yes, we have totems given to us at birth that stay with us a lifetime and others are Messenger Totems that will work with us for a day, week, month, and sometimes years before they leave us to allow another to teach us.
Very interesting blog! I am very familiar with the Sacred Path. I love how dragonfly has flown into my Totem. It is amazing how all of the totems stay with us to teach us their medicine, and when they leave so others can enter-they leave behind their essence. I know throughout the years I have had a few different totems appear, and although today two remain really strong with me I always get excited waiting for the others to arrive. Dragonfly has been with me for awhile now, and I have a feeling it will remain for a long time to come.

I love the dragonfly and see them often in my yard. I have the animal totem book and didn’t even think to look it up. My other favorite is the hummingbird.
Warmly,
Theresa

I have always thought dragonflies are beautiful. They are one of my favorites to photograph. I love the way you write my friend! The next time I see a dragonfly, I will think about what I need to change.
Always mesmerized watching the dragonfly!

“Remember things are not always completely as they seem.” This is something I have learned in spades over the past year. The dragonfly seems to like me a lot, or at least while I’m in the pool 🙂
